A pinch of imagination. A generous helping of icing.

WELCOME TO THE GINGERBREAD KITCHEN

Little houses.
Big imagination.

The air smells of cinnamon.
The roof is made of biscuits.
And a little wonky is just right.

Start with a ready-made house kit, biscuits, or a cardboard house for pretend play. These are decorating ideas, not baking recipes. Make yours with a grown-up.

Three handmade gingerbread houses: an iced cottage, a pretzel woodland cabin, and a pink candy sweetshop, on a warm Christmas kitchen table.

What shall we build?

Use the picture for inspiration. Your house doesn’t need to look like anyone else’s.

01 / A CHRISTMAS CLASSIC

Peppermint
Cottage

A snowy roof, a candy-striped doorway, and a tiny welcome for the whole village.

  • A plain house kit or biscuit walls
  • White icing and red decorations
  • Peppermint sweets and star-shaped treats
Open the decorating plan
  1. Have a grown-up assemble the house on a sturdy base, following the kit’s directions.
  2. Pipe little icing loops along the roof. Give the doorway a red-and-white frame.
  3. Add a peppermint window and a path of colorful sweets.
  4. Finish with a star cookie by the door. Give your cottage a name!
02 / DEEP IN THE SNOWY WOODS

Woodland
Cabin

A cozy little hideaway with biscuit roof tiles and a forest full of make-believe.

  • A house base and pretzel sticks
  • White icing and small biscuit pieces
  • Paper trees for a display, or edible decorations
Open the decorating plan
  1. Start with a stable, assembled house. Use icing to attach pretzel “logs” to the walls.
  2. Layer little biscuit pieces along the roof and add snowy icing at the edges.
  3. Build a winding path and a tiny pretzel fence.
  4. Stand a few trees nearby. Can you invent a story about who lives here?
03 / THE SWEETEST SHOP IN TOWN

Jingle Bell
Sweetshop

A candy-colored shop with a striped awning and a garden of gumdrops.

  • A house kit and pink or white icing
  • Red-and-white candy decorations
  • Gumdrops, sprinkles, and plenty of imagination
Open the decorating plan
  1. Cover the front with a thin layer of icing and let it set as directed.
  2. Make a striped awning above the door using icing or small candy pieces.
  3. Add round candy windows and a gumdrop garden.
  4. Make up the shop’s special treat. Snowflake biscuits? Reindeer birthday cake?

The little making checklist

No need to buy everything. See what you already have.

These ticks stay only while this page is open.

A quiet word for grown-ups

  • Follow the kit’s instructions and check ingredient and allergy labels.
  • Keep craft glue, paper, lights, and other non-food decorations out of anything that will be eaten.
  • Small sweets and decorations need age-appropriate supervision. Adults handle ovens and sharp tools.
  • Keep real flames away from your creation. The glowing houses in our illustration are make-believe.

A little icing. A little imagination.
And a little kindness to share.
